I recently listened to a podcast by John Eldredge about Thanksgiving. He shared that according to a psychologist’s research, our brains have a”negativity bias”: that is, we are five times more likely to remember negative experiences than positive ones. But you can begin to restructure pathways in your brain by seizing upon your positive moments and dwelling on them for 10-20 seconds.
One of the ways you can do this is by expressing gratitude. As you take the time to thank God for His blessings, you “rewire” your brain so that you can hang onto your positive moments longer and actually increase your enjoyment of them. So, is it any surprise that Scripture is filled with the command to “Give thanks to the Lord?” God known that not only does it give Him the glory He is due, but it actually reprograms our brains to be more positive and joyful persons.
This Thanksgiving, give thanks and be changed!
